    Application deadline Monday April 30
Workshop dates Friday – Sunday June 22-24
At the University of Illinois — Urbana-Champaign College of Communications
$50 fee, payable once application accepted, 30 people will be selected from application pool

    - Event sponsored by the Illinois Alumni and Friends Chapter of NPPA, the IPPA, UIUC Journalism, Apple and Canon.
    - Workshop attendees will have to pay for rooms at a hotel to be arranged.
    - Some meals will be provided.
    - Students need to bring two miniDV tapes, at least five blank DVD-R disks and eight AA batteries.
    - Bring a video camera if you have one. Bring tripods, mics and video lights if you have them too. BUT you do not need any equipment to come — it will be provided for you.
    - Attendees must come all three days.

There are 15 workstations and more than 15 people have expressed interest. Once you apply, a mix of applicants from various papers will be selected. Applicants will be put together into teams of two and will share workstations. Attendees will be paired with others from their newspaper; lone photographers will be paired with others attending by themselves.

The workshop will start Friday Evening at 6 p.m. and end Sunday by 5 p.m.
You will learn the basics of telling a story with video, how to work with audio and microphones and how to edit video and export it for the web. We will cover a lot of ground, so you need to come motivated and enthusiastic. Consider this your first video workshop, not your only video workshop.
Schedule — Friday orientation, Saturday shooting and editing, Sunday, editing and review

We will edit on Macintosh G5 and Mac Pro computers using Apple’s Final Cut Pro 2 video editing software.
