News Comments: 1st place was a very nice moment emphasizing the tenderness of of touch and connection. Photog was really on top of things to capture the moment. 2nd place was a wonderful, tight composition with nice layering that emphasized the sadness
of the failed referendum. Could have been improved just a bit by cropping on the right. The scared look on the cat’s face in the 3rd place image says it all. Great way to illustrate the story.

Sports Comments: You could almost feel the crunch to the back in the 1st place image. Clean composition and peak moment. We loved the unique perspective on the triple jump for 2nd place with the girl’s hair flying. Very enterprising of the photographer to choose not to show feet or sand — a pleasant surprise. 3rd place was another visceral moment. You could just feel ball flying straight into the fielder’s stomach.

Single Comments: 1st place was an odd and humorous perspective on setting up a museum exhibit. Excellent layering and composition. 2nd place made us laugh loudly! It had a child horror movie feel to it and showed the contrast of emotions perfectly. While the caption was excellent, it wasn’t even needed. The emotion on the face of the subject in the 3rd place image really told the story of his gratitude for the appreciation shown to him. The photographer made a wonderful, storytelling image on what could have been an average setup shot.

Feature Multiple Comments: 1st place was a multi-faceted treatment of a fresh story idea. The photos exude warmth between senior friends and companions. 2nd place was a well told story between two unexpected friends. We really liked how old the good doctor
looked, his stoop, his facial expressions. 3rd was a versatile look at one event with lots of picture variety. The photographer artistically captured the sports action as well as the community’s feelings about the skiing event.
