Comments:
1st place was a nice moment from what otherwise could have been a
boring event.
The other two winners were the best of pretty typical news situations.
Strong moments and clean composition helped these photos rise to the
top.

Comments:
Sports was tough to judge. Very little seemed to rise to the top and
there was much dissention in the ranks when juding this category. We
finally narrowed it down to the best executed action/sports features that
we could find, and added in a little bit different moment (#2) that
caught our eye.

Comments:
1) We couldnąt fail to pick this as a winner. It was just too funny,
perhaps a bit cheesy, but a quintessential feature photo, very fun.
2) We liked the idea of a education-related photo column. It seems that
much of our local content is being zoned these days, and education
reporting is key to this kind of context. This was the best of the column
photos by the Times photographers.

Comments:
1) Clean and graphic, but needed more space on the page. Good use of
color.
2) Humor saves this one, would have been nice in color
3)Good technical food shot, very appealing
