Magnum Photos/Canon Explorer of Light photojournalist Susan Meiselas will round out the lineup for the upcoming The Women in Photojournalism Conference. Meiselas, renowned for her documentary photography and published widely and related to human rights in various regions throughout the world will share her work and great photojournalism. Also on a program that features the best in the business is the NPPA/Nikon Documentary Sabbatical grant winner Adriana Lopez Sanfelieu, Melina Mara from The Washington Post and Barbara Davidson from The Dallas Morning News are among the speakers on the program. There will be workshops focusing on “Photojournalism Ethics”, “Creating Content for the Web”, “Designing your Web Page”, “The History of Women in Photojournalism”, “Covering your Community”, “Fine Arts Photography” and finally, “Finding New Ways to Tell Stories on the Web” and “Video techniques for Still Photojournalist” by Regina McCombs from The Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The television program will present workshops on hot topics like: “Narrative Storytelling in a Drive by Medium”, and “Daily Doesn’t Mean Dull” by Carolyn Mungo, KRIV-TV in Houston, and “Narrative Journalism in an age of Profit and Efficiency” by Karen Schwanbeck, Quinnipiac University. There will also be workshops on “Putting Emotion in every Story”, “Effective Storytelling” and “Making your Mark in your Newsroom”.
We are also very lucky to have a special presentation by Carol Daniel. Carol is a gifted motivational speaker who believes in the biblical verse, “To whom much is given, much is required.” Carol is also a columnist. Her weekly column “Carol’s Journal” is featured in the award-winning St. Louis American Newspaper. And her monthly magazine column “Balancing Act” about life as a working mother, can be read in, “Savvy Family” published by the Suburban Journals.
There will be portfolio reviews for both print and television throughout the conference.
