2nd, “Damaged Car” by TJ Salsman, State Journal-Register, 3-14-06
3rd, “Immigrant Right Protest” by Greg Morley, freelance, 3-1-06

2nd,”Hurdle Preparation” by Jim Bowling, The Telegraph, 3-26-06
3rd,”Missed Ball” by Jim Bowling, The Telegraph, 3-3-06
comments-While hockey fights are routine, we really likes the _expression of the young fan as the two players went at it. The juxtaposition of the worker against the track participant was an interesting view and a very well done baseball photo.

2nd,”Food Giveaway” by Shannon Kirshner, State Journal-Register, 3-16-06
3rd “Spring Silhouettes” by David Zentz, Peoria Journal-Star
comments-An original and fresh perspective on an exercise class of mothers with strollers at the mall, and a great _expression as a woman gets her free food, and the silhouette had the additional element of the sun starburst.

2nd,”Dinosaur Builders” by John Badman, The Telegraph, 3-5-06
3rd,”Cheer Contest” by Max Bittle, Southern Illinois University, 3-16-06
comments-Roller skating was a typical photo feature; it won the judges over by the excellent level of photos. Many liked the 2nd place piece, it was different and well done. The images were very sophisticated. Cheerleading piece was similar to the comments I had on the skating piece, very well done

3rd, “Storm” by TJ Salsman, Springfield State Journal Register
HM, “Power Pole” by David Zalaznik, Peoria Journal Star, 4-15-06
comments-Generally this was a weak category. We saw a few nice feature images that perhaps could have been entered in the feature category. The 2nd place photo by David Zentz probably would have placed 1st in feature. With a tighter crop, the HM picture would have placed 3rd.
SPORTS

2nd,”Crash into fence” by John Starks, Daily Herald, 4-12-06
