Lisagor Award nominations open
Nominations are now open in the Peter Lisagor Awards for Exemplary Journalism, the Chicago area’s premier local journalism honors. Download an entry form that can be filled in and printed from a computer by visiting www.headlineclub.org
The deadline for entry is Jan. 20, 2006. Entries this year may be paid by credit card, and Chicago Headline Club members may submit their own work for half-price.
Pay special note that we are retiring our Public Service Award and replacing it with a new Watchdog Award. Photography and Spanish-language categories were expanded for this year’s competition.
There is no charge for nominations submitted for the new Watchdog Award, which honors news reporting that calls attention to situations in which the public is being harmed or poorly served. Watch your mail for details about how to submit nominations for this important award that is designed to encourage reporting that sticks up for the common person.
The Watchdog Award recipient(s) will walk away with a cash prize that will be presented April 21, 2006, at the Lisagor Awards banquet in Chicago. Miami Herald syndicated columnist Leonard Pitts Jr. is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the event.
Also, nominations are open for the Ethics in Journalism Award.
